"So, I was a bit nervous about this DITL photo session because I was not sure how my kids would accept a stranger in the house, especially in the morning. Alyssa though was so non-intrusive and kid-friendly that my boys immediately welcomed her. The oldest was retelling her a book he'd just read, the baby had a charming smile the whole time and looked straight in the camera (as you can tell from the images). And even our middle one, who is such a shy kid, was just totally himself. Now, looking back, I am so happy to have these moments captured - the slipping on a boot, the hugging feet, the mismatched patterns of kids dressing themselves. Ordinary life is so extraordinary..."
Day in the Life sessions are one of my favourites to photograph. I get to capture some real, sweet and often funny moments that so often go unnoticed. This family had a half DITL session, and we got to spend the morning together! I arrived around 7:45am and joined them while they were making breakfast.
After breakfast they did a little jam session/practiced piano while the littlest boys played and mom cleaned up after breakfast.
Then we headed outside to plant some seeds in the garden before coming back in for milk and cookies and a book.
It was such a fun morning and I’m so glad they invited me to join them! I love being able to just jump right in and almost become a part of the family for a short period of time. It’s also so amazing for families to see themselves from the outside looking in. To appreciate the little moments, the funny moments, and of course, the weird things that kids do 😂
